The Zenolite Story - Zenolite and the Environment

The Zenolite® optical polymer acrylic panel - is leading the way when it comes to visibility and design impact.

Each and every step of the specialised manufacturing process is quality assured and continuously monitored to remove any imperfections and ensure a seamless and perfect mirror flat image from which the colour of the product simply radiates.

After 5 years research and testing, the Zenolite product was born.

We took a significant first step in the creation of Zenolite by examining the existing materials and substrates for the home and commercial markets, and found there were significant needs not being met by current products.

Firstly, there were colour depth and consistency issues- where many older products merely had a colour sprayed onto the surface, unlike Zenolite which has the colour embedded in the polymer layer.

Secondly was the issue of consistency of product where many older technologies were unable to stop ripples and curves in the panel material and created an uneven surface. With today's technology these would now be considered as rejects.

Thirdly, we needed to create a lightweight and cost effective material that could be cut and fitted on site. This resulted in better outcomes for home and commercial applications, as last minute alterations to size and layout could be made without the need to send the product back or re-order.

Lastly, in many cases the purchase of designer type glass panels can take many weeks and this burden is often placed on the end user if alterations cannot be made on site.

NOTE: Zenolite is not to be used directly behind any heat source - eg stoves, cooktops, heaters, elements, ovens, gas ranges etc

Zenolite and the Environment

Zenolite is PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) polymer which is completely inert and does not release any emissions to the environment. Zenolite is ultra hygienic and does not promote bacterial growth or transmission.

The unique properties of Zenolite make it ideally suited to new or refurbishment for interior vertical surfaces around the home, office or commercial environments.  Zenolite can be applied with a minimum of preparation over previously finished walls, reducing demolition waste and energy consumption. Zenolite is durable and refinishable in situ and will remain functional for many years.

Zenolite consists of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen and is recyclable either by mechanical, chemical or thermal means.  Zenolite can be ground and pelletized for reuse in sheet extrusion or injection moulding.  If correctly incinerated Zenolite produces only water and carbon dioxide. Zenolite can also be chemically reduced to its original monomer for use in other acrylic based products.

Zenolite’s unique colour layer is achieved without the use of secondary processes or VOC’s. The colour and clear layers will not separate under any conditions and are not affected by moisture in any way. Zenolite cannot rot and is not susceptible to termite attack.

Zenolite is half the weight of an equivalent glass panel and therefore uses less energy during transportation and installation.

Zenolite will only consume around 10% of the original energy consumption during recycling.  This is in contrast to glass which consumes more than 60% of its original energy consumption during recycling.

Zenolite contributes to credit points for the United States Green Building Council LEED building rating system.

Zenolite is wholly manufactured under the EGR Environmental Management System which has been independently accredited to ISO14001.   The Zenolite manufacturing process does not release any harmful emissions to air, land or water.

Additionally, the Zenolite manufacturing plant uses a compact footprint and is fully self contained.
